The Weight of the Scale
By: S.J.
Dealing with purging and excessive restriction for a long time, I’ve learned that the reality of the fight of an eating disorder is something that is unimaginably tiring: the ceaseless thoughts about numbers on a scale or a nutrition label, the crippling shame as I rushed to the bathroom after every meal, the ruthless words of praise from those around me for how much better, healthier, prettier I looked. Through this piece, I portrayed my personal experiences with disordered and the mental toll that a poor relationship with food can have on an individual. The scale, or what it represents, is an obstacle in my life, constantly weighing me down.
