Uncontrollable
By: Claire S.
I created my own artwork that was motivated and inspired by my negative portion of my memories through mental health. The first thought that the viewers would most likely visualize is going to be just a miserable and distressing time of an ordinary teenager. However, there is a much deeper meaning and story inside. Throughout my living for the most part, I tried my best to keep my life as stable and maintain perfection as possible. I often felt overwhelmed and always dissatisfied with myself no matter how many times I successfully achieved my goals. The young girl in the center is displaying my self's hopelessness and loss of aspiration. The toxic green octopus' tentacles that are dragging the girl's legs deeper into the water dangerously represents the challenges she had to fight. Lastly, the most significant piece of this work are the four different facial expressions of her. They are the basic process of devastation of despair that every human has experienced. These expressions are shock, anger, panic, and eventually sums up to sadness after the realization of how she was still too young to fully control her mental struggles. I wish the viewers are able to understand that although there are some anguished obstacles in life, we should try not to stick with the negativities with ourselves, but to concentrate on what makes me happier instead.
