All Scars Take Time to Heal
By: Ruth Hardy
This piece highlights mental healing. I've always been a very anxious person. From the start to cope with my anxieties, I would suck on my thumb. Once I broke out of that habit, I would unconsciously scratch whether it was my body or my face or my scalp. And with that it left scars on my body that I used to be self conscious about. In this painting, I use leaves as they are known to have healing properties and Band Aids and surround myself in this self portrait with them. This shows that although I had physical scars using physical healing properties it goes hand and hand with mental scaring. The message is that one can get help from the leaves and Band Aids which represent therapy and mental health care and surrounding yourself with healthy relationships and with time and consistency they can heal.
