Unreachable
By: Valeria D.
For this piece, I was inspired by the way money controls many of our lives. In modern society, many struggle from hopelessness, despair, and anxiety. The root of these problems are often due to the seemingly endless pursuit of money. Yet, there always seems to be a shortage of it, with minimum wage jobs so low and healthcare, food, rent, and utility costs so high. In the end, it seems as if we are always reaching for more, leading to an unshakeable sense of hopelessness. I hope the viewers will be able to understand this feeling through my art and identify with it. I chose colored pencil for this piece because it is my strongest medium, so I thought it would be best to convey my message. For my background, I based it off of traditional paintings of Jesus, where he is surrounded by a bright halo. I hope that this effect shows the overemphasis of value of money and how it is the focus of many of our desires and struggles.
