Pretty Girls Dont Cry

From a young age women are often shamed or criticized for displaying negative emotions like anger or sadness. This is an issue that is really harmful to women because it invalidates their feelings and forces them bottle up emotions. Through my piece I wanted to bring light to this issue! I choose the saying “You look better when you smile” because this is a common microaggression said to women when they show negative emotions. Also the saying “You look better when you smile” helps promote the idea that being attractive to others and looks are more important than the emotions of women. With my piece I wanted to help encourage women to embrace all feelings negative or positive, and know that their feelings are valid.
